Superintendent's Message

Jim Connor
The Columbus ISD Board of Trustees recently voted to make the wearing of masks optional in CISD. They all agreed that if situations change, and to prevent any serious spread of the virus, CISD should establish protocols to bring back the wearing of masks on a temporary basis. In keeping with Columbus ISD’s practices to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families, staff, and the community that the increase in positive cases in Colorado County, as well as the number of students and staff quarantined because of the virus may affect campuses within Columbus ISD. If 5% of the students on a campus are absent for illness or quarantine, or if 5% of the students in CISD are absent for illness or quarantine, the campus or district would revert to a Purple Schedule which would require all students and staff of that campus, or of the district to wear masks when social distancing cannot occur.
CES – 5% of 689 total students – 34
CJHS – 5% of 343 total students – 17
CHS – 5% of 477 total students – 24
District – 5% of 1509 total students in District– 75
The affected campus will remain in the purple category until the percentage of students affected drops below 5%. The District will remain in purple category until the percentage of students in CISD drops below 5%. Please stay vigilant in assisting Columbus ISD in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Please check the COVID-19 tab on the CISD website regularly for the latest campus or district updates.
