Membership in Columbus Junior High School's Chapter of the National Honor Society is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Members have the responsibility to demonstrate these qualities.
Eligibility:
Candidates eligible for selection shall have a minimum cumulative average of 90 on a 100 point scale.
Candidates eligible for selection must be members of the 8th grade, 7th grade, or 6th grade.
Candidates shall be considered based on their scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character.
Selection Process:
New members are chosen during the spring semester of each school year. Membership is by invitation only.
Once a student receives an invitation to join, it is his/her responsibility to complete a Student Information Sheet (see link at right) and return it to the chapter adviser on or before the specified date.
A Faculty Council will review the Student Information Sheet to determine membership.
Once selected candidates become members when inducted at a special induction ceremony.
Member Responsibilities:
Once inducted members are expected to participate in NJHS activities; including meetings, fundraisers, fieldtrips, etc.
Members are also required to complete at least 5 service hours per sememster. Examples include: participating in planned chapter activities, volunteer activities, communittee service, etc. There is a Service Hours Log in each member's handbook or you can download it at the right. Hours served must be logged on this sheet.
Those members not participating will be subject to discipline and/or dismissal from NJHS. The discipline and dismissal process is outline in the Columbus Junior High School's Chapter bylaws which are included in CJHS's NJHS Handbook (see links at right).
