| Curriculum |
| Students are issued a set of textbooks to be used at home during the school year. Each teacher has a classroom set available for students to use at school. Each student at CJHS-RC carries with them a bound agenda/handbook for organizational purposes. The agenda includes a daily assignment section that allows students to record homework, tests, and other information in order to be more organized and successful. |

| Instructional / Advisory Opportunities |
| Activity / Advisory offers the pupil an opportunity to really get to know his/her teacher in a less formal setting and for the teacher and administrators to develop programs to meet the student's individual needs. No academic subjects are taught during this period. The intent of the advisory is: |
- It allows for community projects, guest speakers, etc.
- It allows for intramural activities.
- It allows for the counselor to meet with individuals, small groups, or larger groups without sacrificing instructional time.
- It allows for study time during the school day.
- It allows for tutorial, UIL, clubs, and organization meetings.
- It provides opportunities for silent reading or study sessions.
- It is adaptable to meet the needs of the adolescent pupil.
| Counseling services will be provided individually and in group settings. The counselor will be available to discuss academic as well as personal problems wtih both students and parents. Students should schedule appointments with the counselor through a teacher or the office. Youth and Family Services are also available. |

| Cardinal Incentive Program - Columbus Junior High offers many incentives to encourage students to excel to the best of their ability. The Cardinal Incentive Program is a three level program that recognizes students each six weeks for having good grades, good attendance, and good behavior. The three levels are: Achievers, Achievers with Honors, and Highest Honors. To learn more about each of these levels and about other incentive programs at CJHS-RC, please refer to the "Incentives" section of the student handbook. |

| More detailed information can be found in the Student Handbook or by visiting our office. School starts each morning at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. We run a closed campus and students are not allowed to leave the campus during the instructional day unless absolutely necessary. Parents are asked not to schedule appointments for students during the school day if at all possible, especially during second period. This is the official period when attendance is reported to the state. If the student is absent during second period, he/she is considered absent all day. |
